Types of doula care/focus of care: I offer full-spectrum doula services for all reproductive health needs, including prenatal, labor and birth, postpartum, abortion, loss, and conception and fertility support. I am happy to support all families and pregnancy outcomes, and often work with people who have experienced trauma, single parents, LGBTQIA+ families, people carrying surrogate pregnancies, and people with chronic pain and people who are disabled. I often priortize working with people who have low-income and/or take COVID precautions.
General structure for doula services:
For all potential clients, I offer an initial free consultation over the phone or video call so we have the opportunity to see if working together feels like a good fit.
I offer a wide variety of services to support the perinatal period and beyond, and each service can be tailored to fit your unique needs. Each service is designed to offer you evidence-based information, non-clinical emotional and physical support, and to help you feel safe and supported as you navigate through such an important experience.
The typical structure for birth doula care includes 2-3 prenatal visits for us to get to know each other, and learn the best ways I can support you. Those visits usually last 1.5-2 hours each. Additionally, I’m available via phone and email to answer questions/talk about things that come up during your pregnancy. I go on call for you at 38 weeks, and am available 24/7 until your baby is born and you return home (if birthing outside of your home). Additionally up to 3, 3 hour postpartum visits are included in each birth package.
Postpartum care for daytime support is flexible, but typically I offer a minimum of 2 hour visits, with most visits being 3-4 hours. Visits can be once a week, or more frequent, depending on your needs. Occasionally I am able to offer overnight postpartum care, please inquire.
All other services are structured uniquely to meet your needs. If you are seeking support for abortion, pregnancy loss, and/or conception and fertility support, please inquire.
Additional projects/offerings: In addition to doula care, I offer baby-wearing consultation to help caregivers find baby carriers that work well for their needs and learn about the benefits of baby wearing. This is open to parents, extended family, nannies, babysitters, and anyone who anticipates or is currently spending time with babies.
I also offer childbirth education, available in a variety of virtual and in-person formats.
In 2023, I got my level 1 and then later level 2 certification in Reiki. I offer private reiki virtually and in COVID-safer in-person sessions, and occasionally am able to offer community Reiki sessions.
I also offer support to people trying to navigate the health care system to access a diagnosis and/or care for chronic symptoms. This includes informational and emotional support before, during, and after appointments, and assistance in accessing resources and finding doctors who are the right fit for you.
Why are you a doula? I have held a life-long fascination with pregnancy and birth, and am deeply passionate about the mix of science and mystery that the perinatal period can offer. At the same time, I believe firmly in each person’s right to autonomy, choice, and in the principles of reproductive justice: that everyone has a right to parent, and everyone has the right not to parent. For me, doula work has offered the perfect pathway to blend care work, activism, and my knowledge about reproductive systems and inter-personal wellbeing.
Getting to support people to access evidence-based information and make the choices that are best for them, and then to get to support those choices being made into action is an honor and a privilege.
Although I have been doing doula-adjacent work since I was a teenager, it wasn’t until I was in my 20s that I learned what a doula is. In 2020, I trained as a birth doula, and began attending births in 2021. Since then, I have worked in both private and community-based models for doula care and attended about 30 births, and accompanied many more people through parts of the perinatal process. I have attended several other trainings since that first one, including Birthing Advocacy Doula Training’s Full-Spectrum Doula course and Childbirth Educator course in 2022, and certifying as a Trauma Competent Professional through Lakeside Global Institute in 2024.
