Type of Doula: birth and postpartum

Why are you a doula?

I believe that birth is a transformative experience. It can be so empowering, and we can find stores of strength we weren’t aware that we had. I am very interested in pregnancy and birth, and the body’s and mind’s amazing abilities. I find it to be very meaningful work, and feel so blessed to have the opportunity to be invited into a sacred and intimate space with those giving birth and the families that are welcoming a new life into their world. I know firsthand what a difference it can make to have people you feel safe with and who you trust, be present at your birth, and love helping to create that environment for others.

General Structure of Services:

My fee for birth doula work is $1200*, which includes a free initial meeting, two prenatal meetings, being on call 24 hours by phone or text starting at 38 weeks, and one postpartum visit. For some details on the appointments: the prenatal appointments are a chance to get to know you and discuss your feelings about birth, your vision of the birth you’d like to have, and plans for labor and postpartum. It’s a time to discuss concerns, information you may need, and to develop a relationship and level of trust for the upcoming birth.

For the birth, I will meet you at your home, and/or at your place of birth when active labor has begun. I will be with you for your entire labor and birth, and stay with you for an hour or two after baby has been born, to make sure you are comfortable and ready to have time alone.

For the postpartum appointments, I will discuss the birth with you and help address any questions or concerns that you may have as well as support with newborn care.

If desired, I can provide more postpartum care and help in other capacities, such as baby care so that you can get some rest, or light housework, such as dishes, sweeping and vacuuming, and meal prep. I charge $26 an hour for postpartum care.

* I understand that this fee is not accessible to everyone and have a deep belief that every birthing person should have access to a doula who wants one so I can often offer a sliding scale. I also work with the Doula Access Initiative which provides free doula care to folks in need. You can find more information about this HERE
